Don't spoil APC chance.
Ondo: Delegates camping damaging, don’t spoil APC chances – Ariyomo warns other aspirants
By Wale Odunsi
An All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship
aspirant in Ondo State, Engr. Tunji Light Ariyomo,
has appealed to the party not to involve in any
form of ‘delegates camping’ ahead of the
September 3 primary.
He spoke to DAILY POST in reaction to an alarm
raised by another aspirant of the party, Dr
Olusegun Abraham.
Abraham, while featuring on a live radio station
programme in Akure, alleged that some aspirants
scheming to win APC ticket had camped the
delegates in an area.
Abraham said: “These delegates who never knew
the intention of the desperate aspirants, went for
the meeting, only to be confined and never
allowed to go home.”
But sounding a note of warning, Ariyomo told our
correspondent that: “Delegate camping is a
vestige of the locust days of the PDP where
money and only money decided preferences.
“There must be a departure from that experience.
Delegates should not be treated as commodities
that are on sale.
“They are our people. If you are truly worthy of
their votes and you are genuinely worthy of the
ticket of APC, your strategy must not be to camp
delegates and buy their votes.”
TLA, as fondly called, added: “Your strategy must
be that of active and productive engagement of
their minds to convince them that you have the
best programs for the economic revival of our
state.
“If your strategy to win is to hide delegates from
your fellow contestants, how would you measure
up in the general election? Would you hide the people from other parties?”
